Broadcasters and content owners have an ongoing need for a format which will protect their assets for decades. Spinning disks with their high energy requirements are extremely inefficient for holding rarely-accessed media. Nor are they designed to run for extended periods. LTO tape, on the other hand, is manufactured to deliver up-to 30 years of achival life. 

All GB Labs LTO systems include fully featured archiving software for backup and archiving tasks. The interface for the software is a web GUI that allows users and administrators to write TAR files to tape sets or even format the tapes as LTFS. All operations can be completed using the software and data can be pulled seamlessly from any Space system. 

Uniquely the system also allows users to mount LTFS tapes on their desktops through the network. You can then interact with the tapes much like any other removable media (USB, FireWire drives etc).

The software logs all activity and catalogs the contents of each tape and any additional meta data. This means that the entire catalog can be searched intelligently and retrieval of data is fast and straightforward. 

Many LTO systems jeopardise the tape media by failing to write data at full speed. As a result, the tape is shuttled back and forth across the head, a scrubbing action which can weaken the media. 

GB Labs ensure the native speed of the tape can be delivered by pairing performance storage with LTO6 and LTO7 tape drives and powerful VAULT archiving software. This feature rich software includes HyperWrite, a unique GB Labs technology developed to dramatically improve writing times when dealing with thousands of files and make extremely large data archiving a painless process. 

The LTO7 variant offers 300MB/Sec for archives or restores from a 12TB (safe usable 8TB) internal RAID 5 storage. 

The LTO6 variant offers 160MB/Sec for archives and restores from a 4TB (safe usable 2.6TB) internal RAID 5 storage.

There is also a dual drive variant available with either LTO6 or LTO7. The performance requirement of these units will reach up to 600MB/Sec which is ideal for the 10GbE interface that is added to the unit and allow connection to other GB Labs storage.
